Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Meta to Cover Energy Costs for AI Data Centers
On March 4–5, 2026, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and several AI companies signed an agreement at the White House under which they committed to covering the costs of new electricity generation sources needed to power their data centers.
The initiative aims to reduce pressure on electricity tariffs for households and traditional consumers amid the rapid growth in energy demand driven by AI infrastructure.
According to Reuters, the companies agreed to finance the construction of additional generation capacity necessary for new data centers, including facilities dedicated to AI workloads.
The rapid expansion of AI clusters and hyperscale data centers has significantly increased electricity demand in the United States, raising concerns among regulators and grid operators. Under the new model, major technology companies will directly participate in financing energy infrastructure.
The move reflects the scale of Big Tech’s capital investment in AI infrastructure and underscores that energy supply has become a critical constraint on data center market growth.
