Meta has introduced Muse Glimmer, a new open-weights model designed for agentic tasks on PCs and Macs with a single GPU. The company is betting on local AI that can run on user devices without relying entirely on large cloud platforms.
At the same time, Meta is expanding its infrastructure strategy. Mark Zuckerberg announced a $1 billion fund to support local communities in areas where data centers are being built. He said public resistance to new infrastructure has become a major obstacle for large tech companies, and that building such facilities in the U.S. is more difficult than in China.
The Muse Glimmer launch was accompanied by Zuckerberg’s essay on the future of technology and the need to lower barriers for open-source models. Meta also plans to release the weights of its more advanced Muse Spark 1.2 model. Following the announcements, Meta shares rose nearly 3% in premarket trading.
