Vietnam’s Mobifone in Talks on New 5G Contracts

On March 6, 2026, Reuters reported that Vietnam’s state‑owned operator Mobifone is in negotiations with Chinese technology firms regarding new contracts to build elements of its 5G network.

According to sources, the talks are taking place against the backdrop of previously signed agreements and despite U.S. warnings about potential security risks.

Mobifone plans to expand its 5G infrastructure to strengthen its domestic market position and accelerate the rollout of digital services. The project includes modernization of both the radio access network and the core network.

The Vietnamese government views 5G development as a key component of the country’s digital transformation strategy and industrial growth agenda.
