Qatar-based PIH Communication LLC has completed the second payment tranche as part of its acquisition of Mobile Telecom-Service LLP (Altel/Tele2 brands) from Kazakhtelecom. According to the operator’s audited financial statements, the payment amounted to $25.4 million.
The transaction remains one of the largest telecom deals in Central Asia in recent years. The sale of the mobile asset allows Kazakhtelecom to focus on infrastructure and digital services, including data centers, cloud solutions, and AI-related projects.
For the market, the deal signals growing international interest in the region’s telecom infrastructure sector. Once finalized, PIH will gain control over a significant portion of Kazakhstan’s mobile communications market, while the sector itself continues moving toward consolidation.
